Liverpool’s giant puppets

Liverpool was over-run with three giants who walked through the city, watched by a million people, of which I was one, in a show to commemorate World war One.

The eye-watering spectacle was a feat of engineering and skill, as dozens of men tugged and pulled at wires to create lifelike movements from the towering puppets of a grandmother, a little girl and her pet dog Xolo, who stole the show for many children when he wagged his tail, dribbled and even relieved himself on a lamppost.

Created and brought to life by Royal de Luxe, a French street theatre company, they promised a “spectacular, emotional journey” and it really proved to be just that!
